Supreme National Committee for E-Census 2020 holds Second meeting
The Supreme National Committee for electronic Census of populationhousings and establishments for 2020 held its second meeting under the chairmanship of His Highness Sayyid Haitham bin Tariq Al SaidMinister of Heritage and Culturein the presence other members. The meeting reviewed and discussed key topics including the model and plan of action for the 2020 e-census of populationhousing and establishment projectwhich was designed after a series of meetings to assess the current state of government institutionswhich is the focus of the census project.
The Committee adopted the implementation mechanism and schedule of the census proposed in the meeting. The organizational structure and the estimated budget for the project was approved and adopted by the technical committee that was formed to study the overall project planas well as the interim census and it’s follow-up. The technical committee is also mandated with providing the human resources for the projectand addressing the various challenges that may arise during the implementation stages.
The Committee also discussed the draft unified addressing system in the Sultanatewhose second phase is being implemented by the (NCSI) in coordination with various competent governmental authorities. The system will function through a centralized database and will provide crucial information to various governmental institutions. The project is crucial for the Sultanate as it aims to shift addressing to the digital formatfacilitating a standard address system across governorates and establishing a fool-proof mechanism for error-free addresses.
The unified system is expected to enhance the growth of e-business in the Sultanate. The Committee also touched on the Statistics and Information Act and the subject of data strategy. The e-census of populationhousing and establishments for 2020 is the fourth such census the Sultanate. The outputs from these censuses have contributed to enhancing the short- and long-term data and indicatorsand provided a set of statistical frameworks for the conduct of surveys and field studies.
